Message from Karen Woodall 2018

Dear

I am writing as the Director of Therapeutic Services of the Family Separation Clinic and as an internationally recognised expert in the field of parental alienation. I am a member of the Parental Alienation Studies Group and a Co-founder of the European Association of Parental Alienation Practitioners. As part of my work with both of these groups I am curating the standards of practice for certification in this field worldwide. I am the co-author of Understanding Parental Alienation: Learning to Cope, Helping to Heal (2017) Charles Thomas Illinois.

I am writing to you as you are a contact of the House of Reunification. An organisation which has been set up to deliver services of support to families affected by parental alienation in Belgium and Holland. The Family Separation Clinic, which is well recognised around the world, is partnered with HVH to deliver services, including reunification programs for severely alienated children and parents in Belgium and Holland.

As such, HVH is the only organisation which is working directly with the support of the Family Separation Clinic and the only organisation through which FSC is delivering its expertise, guidance and supervision. The success of the Family Separation Clinic in this field, is well recognised around the world and it plays a significant part in the development of new services for families affected by parental alienation globally.

It is important to the Family Separation Clinic that those people who seek to work in this field or who are affected by the problem of parental alienation, understand the partnership which is in place with House of Reunification (Huis van Hereniging). It is particularly important because in Belgium and Holland (as in many other countries in this field) there is a particularly difficult dynamic which affects our work. This dynamic, which in some ways mirrors the problems seen in parental alienation itself, can cause rumours and difficulties around those people who are expert in this field. I note that this has been the case for House of Reunification and I want to clarify the position of the Family Separation Clinic on all levels in this regard.

The Family Separation Clinic works with the House of Reunification on a partnership basis in which FSC supervises the work of HvH. In addition, FSC will, shortly, train and deliver reunification programmes in the family courts in Belgium as part of this partnership work. FSC is pleased to be able to offer this work in Belgium and to be able to guide, supervise and standardise practice in Belgium as part of the European Association of Parental Alienation Practitioners.

The services which will be offered by HvH are similar to those which are offered by the Family Separation Clinic and will be developed and delivered in accordance with the standards set by FSC, standards which are recognised internationally as best practice in this field. This provides quality assurance for all services which will be delivered through HvH as well as management expertise and supervision which is maintained through Dr Hamish Cameron in the UK, a child/adolescent psychiatrist of significant standing in the field of parental alienation.

We are delighted to be working with HvH in this manner as it fulfils the aims of the Family Separation Clinic to replicate services around the world for families affected by parental alienation. We are pleased and proud to say that we have already successfully replicated our services in the USA, where recently a reunification of a sixteen year old boy was undertaken by FSC practitioners under our guidance and supervision. We are currently supervising three more reunifications, one of which will be undertaken shortly in California under our expert guidance.

If you would like more information about the Family Separation Clinic and House of Reunification Partnership please do let us know.

We will shortly have a fully trained, managed and supervised reunification team ready to work in Belgium and we will be delighted to accept referrals for this work in the very near future.

Kind Regards

Karen Woodall
